During my MA, a lot of my work focused on queer identity, relationships and personhood. This is still very much at the core of my poetry. I like to focus on small insignificant moments and amplify them, as if it were a zoom in/pan out shot in a film. Studying my MA in poetry was what really made me fall in love with writing and begin to think of a career in it. It is honestly the only thing I have felt truly passionate about. Although poetry could be seen as a far-cry from professional copywriting, I find that writing poetry asks you to consider each word and examine its connotations to describe things that are often hard to convey, making it the ultimate test of a writer's ability. I also write poetry for today's moment, so don't worry, I'll try my best not to bore you! For me, poetry is the total distillation of language down to it's purest form and I find that planting my roots as a poet has really helped me to be creative with my style and think outside of the box. It has also provided me with a lifetime of questions at dinner parties, usually starting with, 'But don't poems need to rhyme?'
